What was the hardest part about creating a WordPress website?
The hardest part was learning to customize my theme beyond basic edits. At first, it was overwhelming to understand the difference between themes and plugins and how to use widgets or page builders effectively. Getting the layout to look exactly how I envisioned required a lot of trial and error—but it helped me become more comfortable navigating the back end of a website.
Do you have any future plans for your website?
Maybe I’d like to turn it into a portfolio highlighting my digital marketing, graphic design, and social media campaign work. I want to showcase my creativity and strategic thinking to potential clients or employers; however, this will take more learning and practice.
Did you gravitate toward anything particular during this class?
I really enjoyed the design and branding side of building a site—choosing color schemes, creating a consistent visual identity, and making sure everything was user-friendly. It was exciting to bring all the visual elements together and think about how they connect to the user’s experience.
Is there anything you feel you would like to go deeper on?
Definitely the more technical side, like SEO and optimizing site speed. I know those things greatly impact how a website performs and gets discovered. I’d also like to explore more advanced customization with HTML/CSS to have more creative control over the design.
Do you feel more empowered to hire or be a web designer in the future?
While I’ve gained a stronger understanding of HTML and CSS, I still find some tools—like WordPress and Google Analytics—confusing to navigate. At this point, I’d feel more comfortable hiring a professional web designer or taking another class to deepen my technical knowledge. I want to build a stronger foundation so I can feel confident managing both the creative and technical aspects of a website in the future.
What have you gained from taking this course in relation to your degree?
This course added a really practical skill set to my social media marketing degree. Having a website ties everything together—it’s a place to direct traffic from social campaigns, host content, and build a professional online presence. It made me think more holistically about digital marketing strategies and how web design plays a role in branding and engagement.
